Freezing beauty: Watch Cult of Luna perform acoustic “Passing Through” in Helsinki blizzard

Swedish post-metal band Cult of Luna only debuted the official video for album closer “Passing Through” last month, but it has already filmed a follow-up. And it might outdo the official video for sheer impressiveness and beauty.

The band was in Helsinki, Finland, on March 2, 2013 for a show. With a blizzard hitting that had already shut down cities in Sweden, the guys headed outside to record a single-take, acoustic version of their song.

Said guitarist Johannes Persson: “We shot it in one take, and my fingers were so cold that I couldn’t feel them after only half-way through the song. I didn’t get the feeling back for over 30 minutes after we got inside. All wind sounds you hear are real — no special sound effects to make it sound cool — the sound is straight from the mic. It was fucking freezing and fucking windy. The images actually do not give the cold justice.”

Check out the video, beautifully recorded by Finnish video blog Off the Record, and be glad you’re indoors.
