Animal Collective @ Metro (Chicago)
Fresh off the release of its ninth studio album, experimental indie trio Animal Collective hits Chicago’s Metro, a relatively large venue that ideally won’t affect the group’s warm sound.
Merriweather Post Pavilion, the new album, simplifies the band’s music without dumbing it down, opening a vast space for lavish, layered vocals to hover and swoop in an entirely different, but also familiar, direction. It will be interesting to hear this new material live.
