Interview with Able Baker Fox
Following eight months of online riff-swapping, the scattered Midwesterners of Able Baker Fox rehearsed only once before recording their upcoming debut, Voices, in less than a week at the studio of engineer/producer Ed Rose (Coalesce, The Get Up Kids, Reggie and the Full Effect). Merging old tour buddies and collaborators from melodic post-hardcore groups Small Brown Bike and The Casket Lottery, its members say a combination of history and distance made the record “effortless.”

The pairing of heavy rock instrumentalists Russian Circles and experimental hip-hop duo Dälek might seem to be a mismatched live bill for genre purists. However, since both groups are known for their intense live shows and for pushing the boundaries of their respective genres, it is more of a meeting of musical kindred spirits. Last Tuesday was the kick-off of a touring cycle that brings the two groups together on tour (along with energetic noise-rockers Young Widows) for series of shows until March 2.
You may have heard about the RIAA’s recent major victory in court. Although over 20,000 lawsuits have been filed by the RIAA against people who file share music, only one, so far, has made it to a court room. Everyone else had the good sense to settle out of court for a few grand.
Neasden Control Centre (NCC) is the British design agency of Steve Smith. Smith, who is in his early thirties and lives in Brighton, maintaining a secret identity similar to other artists working in the genre of street-art-inspired design. Smith refers to his work as “visual rants;” his work shows an obvious background in experimental street art and cut-and-paste ‘zine making.
