Seattle hip-hop trio Champagne Champagne teamed with Portland, Oregon-based indie-rock band Starfucker in a recent show at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. Champagne Champagne, composed of emcees Pearl Dragon and Sir Thomas Gray and multi-instrumentalist DJ Gajamagic (formerly of The Blood Brothers), stormed through a high-energy, punk-rap set culled largely from its self-titled album, released in 2009. Tracks like the twisted love song “Molly Ringwald” showcased the group’s unorthodox production and penchant for pop-culture allusion. ALARM staff member Kyle Gilkeson was there to capture the action.

Concert Photos: Freddie Gibbs, Shad, Rita J @ Metro (Chicago, IL)
Gary, Indiana’s gangster-rap phenom Freddie Gibbs, Canadian indie rapper Shad, and Chicago-based ALARM favorite Rita J joined forces for a recent show at Metro in Chicago. The trio of hip-hop performances was part of the annual Tomorrow Never Knows festival hosted by Schubas, Lincoln Hall, and, as of this year, Metro. (See ALARM’s TNK coverage of Twin Shadow and The Helio Sequence.) And below, take a gander at the lovely shots that photographer Logan M. Futej captured images of all three lyrical luminaries.
Concert Photos: The Helio Sequence @ Lincoln Hall (Chicago, IL)
Last week, it was Twin Shadow‘s set during the Tomorrow Never Knows festival; this week, we have photos from The Helio Sequence‘s show at Lincoln Hall. The Portland, Oregon-based guitar-and-drum duo cranked out its trademark psych-pop rock to an eager crowd. Kicking off the show was Chicago-based synth-pop band California Wives, along with sets from Houses and Sun Airway. Check out the photos from contributing photographer Elizabeth Gilmore.
Concert Photos: Fang Island @ Lincoln Hall
Fang Island released its self-titled debut album in early 2010 on Sargent House. The Brooklyn riff masters have been touring on the strength of that record, and they recently made a stop at Lincoln Hall in Chicago for a raucous set of shredding and sweating. ALARM contributing photographer Elizabeth Gilmore was there to document the show.
Concert Photos: Clinic @ Lincoln Hall
Liverpool alt-rockers Clinic stopped in Chicago recently, playing in support of their new album, Bubblegum (Domino, 10/4/10), which showcases the band’s gentler, poppier side. After a few more dates in California, the band will bring its off-kilter rock — and trademark surgical masks — to Italy. ALARM contributing photographer Drew Reynolds cut through the fog to capture these colorful images at Lincoln Hall.
Concert Photos: DeVotchKa @ Lincoln Hall
The indefatigable DeVotchKa, with its distinctive brand of Eastern European and Southwestern pop music, rolled through Chicago recently, playing a show at Lincoln Hall. The long-independent, critical foursome — Nick Urata, Tom Hagerman, Jeanie Schroder, and Shawn King — was supported by Angus & Julia Stone and Scotland Yard Gospel Choir. The band’s most recent album, A Mad & Faithful Telling, was released on March 18, 2008 on Anti-.
Concert Photos: Those Darlins @ Lincoln Hall
Photographer Jon Shaft was on hand to document Those Darlins‘ recent show at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. Openers Turbo Fruits and Velcro Lewis kicked things off before the Darlins took the stage with its raucous brand of country-punk pop.

Schubas’ Tomorrow Never Knows Festival aims to alleviate the mid-winter blight that typically hits Chicago’s live music scene in the winter.
