On the latest track to premiere from The Air You Found — post-punk band Empty Flowers’ star-studded remix collection out next week — MC Dälek’s treatment of “I Get to Know Its Name” falls closer to the industrial-grained textures of his namesake first group (Dälek) than the funk-heavy sounds of his new outfit, Iconaclass.

Dälek (a.k.a. Will Brooks) radically re-imagines the original version, which appears on Empty Flowers’ 2013 sophomore album, Five. Paradoxically, he makes the band sound even more like itself by tapping into a steady-building mood of tension that’s largely absent in the original’s jangly brand of guitar crunch.

Far from your typical remix album, The Air You Found understandably is being billed as a set of “collaborations.” “I Get to Know Its Name” provides another example of why that presentation is apt.
