MP3 Premiere: Gutbucket’s “Tryst ‘n’ Shout” and “498”

GutbucketGutbucket: Flock (Cuneiform, 2/22/11)

Brooklyn-based jazz-rock quartet Gutbucket is set to release its fifth album, Flock, next week on Cuneiform Records. The genre-flouting group violently blends free jazz with equally avant-garde doses of art and math rock. It’s a squealing, shrieking, head-banging and punk-inflected free-for-all that manages to suss out moments of real melody and beauty.

Listen to “Tryst ‘n’ Shout” and “498” from Flock below, and hear why Gutbucket is the master of its full-contact, no-rules domain.

[Ed. note: Flock was previously streaming in its entirety at this location.]
