Saturday’s Lollapalooza festivities began well enough, with Minnesota rap collective Doomtree and soul singer/rapper Aloe Blacc providing early highlights. Things got a little less festive, however, as 60,000 people were evacuated from Grant Park in advance of a powerful storm with 70 MPH winds.
Thankfully, the storm quickly passed before things could be…ahem…washed out, and a number of previously scheduled acts got to take the stage post-storm. (Double-thankfully, the muddy antics were nothing close to the mayhem of Woodstock ’94.)
From there, it was tunes from Washed Out, Bloc Party, and Red Hot Chili Peppers to wind it down. Honorable mentions also go to sets by Franz Ferdinand, Chancellor Warhol, Neon Indian, and Fun.
