The National documentary offers a metalhead’s look into a band of indie-rock brothers

In 2010, The National went on tour, bringing Matt Berninger’s younger brother Tom along to document it. That film, which opens Tribeca this week, turned out to be a lot more than a tour documentary.

The National: Trouble Will Find Me (4AD, 5/20/13)

The Tribeca Film Festival opens today with a slate of films that run the gamut from drama to documentary to horror. One of these films, Mistaken for Strangers, is from first-time director Tom Berninger. If that last name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s the metalhead younger brother of The National front-man Matt Berninger.

Tom tagged along during the band’s 2010 tour, documenting it and acting as assistant tour manager. However, the simple act of filming of the band quickly turned into something else. Check out the trailer below. The film opens at the festival April 17.
