36 Hours in Nashville

Friday

1) Check in to the Hutton Hotel

The Hutton Hotel hallways smells like toilet. It’s unmistakable.  But still, this is the place to stay, Nashville’s newest green hotel. It has a boutique feel, with overly friendly staff, French soaps, super comfy beds, free wi-fi, a rain shower, and warm cookies and milk waiting for you in the room. It’s the kind of place where they treat you like a real dandy, but in a good way. The restaurant is great — friendly, affordable. The bar closes at 2 a.m., but if you need more time to close your deal, $40 will keep it open until 4.

24 Hours in Zurich

Zurich

Arguably the most beautiful city in Europe, Zurich is friendly, comfortable, and absolutely delicious. Ranked as the city with the highest quality of living in the world, with the highest density of bathing facilities  (that often turn into bars at night) and one restaurant for every 180 inhabitants, it’s a great (but likely expensive) stop on a European trip.

World In Stereo: Group Doueh

Group DouehTreeg Salaam

Powerful music often has as much imagery as a western novel. Zane Grey can fill your mind with every pockmark on the face of a mountain in Riders of the Purple Sage, just as Fucked Up can bring you to an abandoned building crumbling from the inside out with only a few chords. Group Doueh can show you Dakhal, Western Sahara in quick bright plucks of a tinidit (a lute-like instrument with a sound as sharp as a sandstorm).

Blu-ray player review

Blu-ray players

A great gift idea this year is a Blu-ray player. Why? First of all, your ancient piece-of-shit DVD player that you bought for $74 at CVS really needs an upgrade.
